The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended a warm welcome to San Francisco Mayor London Breed ahead of her scheduled visit to China next week. The visit aims to cultivate economic opportunities and strengthen ties between San Francisco and several Chinese cities.
Mayor Breed is set to depart on April 13 and will visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai, with which San Francisco shares a sister-city relationship. According to local reports, she plans to meet with leaders in business, innovation, and government during her trip.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin expressed optimism about the visit, stating that it could yield positive results and further promote cooperation between San Francisco and Chinese cities. He emphasized the importance of local exchanges in enhancing China-U.S. relations.
“The hope of the China-U.S. relationship lies in the people, its foundation is in the societies, its future depends on the youth, and its vitality comes from exchanges at sub-national levels,” Wang said.
He added that China has always supported and encouraged people from all walks of life in both countries to engage in more contacts and exchanges, build consensus, enhance trust, eliminate interference, and deepen cooperation to bring tangible benefits to both peoples.
