China Criticizes U.S. Reports Recognizing Disputed Zangnan Region as Indian Territory

China has strongly objected to recent reports suggesting that the United States has recognized Zangnan as part of Indian territory referred to as “Arunachal Pradesh.” Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, stated that “It is a basic, undeniable fact that the area of Zangnan has been an integral part of the Chinese territory since ancient times.”

Wu emphasized that China and India have established mechanisms and communication channels to address border-related issues. “The two sides have the ability and willingness to properly handle the boundary dispute through dialogue and consultation,” he said, reinforcing Beijing’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully.

The Zangnan region, located in the eastern sector of the China-India boundary, has been a subject of longstanding territorial disputes between the two nations. While China asserts sovereignty over Zangnan, India administers the area as the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Reports of the U.S. recognizing the region as Indian territory have added a new dimension to the complex border dynamics in Asia. China’s response underscores its firm stance on territorial integrity and its preference for bilateral resolution of disputes without external interference.

The Chinese Ministry of National Defense’s remarks highlight the importance of diplomatic dialogue in addressing border issues. As two of Asia’s largest nations, China’s and India’s approach to resolving their boundary disputes holds significant implications for regional stability.
