China has strongly condemned a terrorist attack on the Dasu Hydropower Project in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, urging Pakistani authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
At approximately 1 p.m. local time on March 26, a convoy associated with the Dasu Hydropower Project, undertaken by a Chinese company, was attacked. The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of five Chinese nationals and one Pakistani national.
“We express deep condolences to the deceased and extend sincere sympathies to the bereaved families,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday. “China strongly condemns this terrorist attack and demands that Pakistan thoroughly investigate the incident as soon as possible.”
“Meanwhile, we ask Pakistan to take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Pakistan. China is working with Pakistan on the follow-up operation with an all-out effort,” the spokesperson added.
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has issued a reminder to Chinese citizens and businesses in the country to closely monitor the local security situation, strengthen security measures, and take extra precautions against potential terrorist threats.
On the afternoon of March 26, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy to convey condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and the Chinese government. He strongly condemned the terrorist attack, stating that “terrorists’ despicable efforts to harm Pakistan-China friendship will never succeed.”
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, along with the foreign minister, interior minister, and several other political figures, also condemned the attack and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and iron-clad friends. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor greatly contributes to the socioeconomic development of Pakistan.
“Any attempt to undermine China-Pakistan cooperation will never succeed,” the spokesperson emphasized. “China opposes all forms of terrorism and firmly supports Pakistan in fighting terrorism.”
China expressed its commitment to work with Pakistan to fully ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Pakistan.
