China Delivers World’s First CNG Carrier to Indonesia

The world’s first compressed natural gas (CNG) carrier was delivered on Saturday morning in the city of Qidong, east China’s Jiangsu Province. The innovative vessel is set to embark on its maiden voyage to Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in maritime energy transportation.

With a capacity of up to 700,000 cubic meters per voyage, the 110-meter-long carrier will transport CNG between islands in Indonesia to supply peak-demand power plants. Powered by natural gas, the vessel exemplifies eco-friendly engineering with a design speed of 14 knots (1 knot = 1.852 km/h).

The deployment of this CNG carrier is expected to enhance energy distribution within Indonesia, facilitating a more efficient and sustainable supply of natural gas to remote regions. This advancement reflects growing cooperation between China and Indonesia in developing green energy solutions and improving regional connectivity.

The successful delivery of the vessel underscores China’s advancements in shipbuilding technology and its commitment to supporting clean energy initiatives across Asia. As global demand for environmentally friendly energy sources rises, such innovations are crucial for meeting energy needs while reducing environmental impact.
