England manager Gareth Southgate has vehemently dismissed rumors linking him to a managerial position at Manchester United, calling them “completely disrespectful” during a press conference on Friday.
As the leader of the “Three Lions” for over seven years, Southgate is focused on guiding England to success in the upcoming UEFA European Championship (Euro 2024), set to begin on June 14 in Germany. England has yet to clinch the title in the tournament’s 16 previous editions, intensifying the nation’s hopes for a historic victory.
“I think there are two things from my point of view,” Southgate addressed the media ahead of England’s friendly match against Brazil. “One is that I’m the England manager. I’ve got one job basically—to try and deliver a European Championship. Clearly before that, there are two important games this week.”
He continued, “Second thing is, Manchester United have a manager and I think it is always completely disrespectful when there is a manager in place. I’m president of the LMA [League Managers’ Association] so I don’t have any time for that sort of thing really.”
The speculation arose amid discussions about current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s position following the team’s recent performances. However, Southgate firmly reiterated his commitment to the England national team and his focus on the forthcoming international fixtures.
England’s squad is gearing up for a series of crucial matches as they aim to solidify their strategies and build momentum heading into Euro 2024. Fans across the globe, including the vast Asian football community, are keenly watching Southgate’s efforts to bring glory to England.
