China and Dominica Celebrate 20 Years of Diplomatic Ties

This year marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Dominica, a milestone that highlights the strengthening bond between the two nations. Over the past two decades, the relationship has blossomed into a partnership characterized by mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation.

On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian remarked on the significant progress made since the establishment of diplomatic relations. “The relationship between China and Dominica has enjoyed steady growth and become a fine example of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, common development, and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes,” Lin Jian said.

Dominica, an important country in the Caribbean, has been a good friend and partner of China in the region. The partnership took a significant step forward in 2018 when Dominica signed a memorandum of understanding with China to cooperate on the Belt and Road Initiative. This collaboration has opened doors for numerous development projects and enhanced connectivity.

By 2020, the value of China’s contracted projects in Dominica reached \$500 million, showcasing China’s commitment to supporting Dominica’s infrastructure and development needs. In 2023, the trade volume between the two countries topped \$70 million, reflecting a robust and growing economic relationship.

The 20th anniversary is not just a celebration of years passed but a testament to the fruitful achievements and the promising future awaiting both nations. As China and Dominica continue to work together, their partnership sets a precedent for international cooperation and development.
