China and Guinea-Bissau Celebrate 50 Years of Deepening Cooperation

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Guinea-Bissau, highlighting a steady enhancement of friendly cooperation across various sectors since March 15, 1974.

On November 22, 2021, China and Guinea-Bissau signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This agreement opens new avenues for cooperation and commercial opportunities, with priority areas including infrastructure, transportation, electricity, mining, agriculture, and healthcare.

The BRI collaboration has already seen significant developments, such as China’s support for the Bissau-Safin section of the West African coastal road. This project exemplifies the commitment to the BRI and reinforces the profound friendship between the two nations, laying a solid foundation for Guinea-Bissau’s economic and social development.

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Guinea-Bissau’s economy. Chinese agricultural experts stationed in the country have provided technical training to thousands of local farmers, assisting in cultivating improved rice varieties. These efforts aim to boost harvests and advance local agricultural practices, contributing to food security and economic growth.
