China’s National Tree Planting Day Sees Surge in Greening Efforts

Beijing, March 12 — China celebrated its National Tree Planting Day on Tuesday, marking a significant push in the country’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. Citizens across the nation participated in planting trees, contributing to the country’s ambitious afforestation campaign.

According to official data released by the National Greening Commission, China intensified its greening efforts in 2023 by planting 3.998 million hectares of forest. This figure surpasses the 3.83 million hectares of afforestation achieved in 2022, highlighting the nation’s dedication to combating climate change and promoting ecological balance.

In addition to tree planting, China restored 4.379 million hectares of degraded grassland and treated 1.905 million hectares of sandy and stony land in 2023. These initiatives aim to prevent desertification, preserve biodiversity, and improve land productivity.

The continuous efforts since 2014 reflect China’s long-term strategy to enhance its natural landscapes and contribute to global environmental sustainability. The National Tree Planting Day serves as a reminder of the vital role that public participation plays in achieving these environmental goals.

Experts believe that China’s greening initiatives not only benefit the domestic environment but also have positive implications for global ecological health. As the country pursues these large-scale environmental projects, it sets an example for sustainable practices worldwide.

With ongoing commitment and public involvement, China continues to make strides toward a greener future, emphasizing the importance of ecological preservation in its national agenda.
