China has issued a warning against attempts by certain political forces to create a “forced decoupling, forced unemployment, and a forced return to poverty” in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region under the pretext of human rights.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made these remarks during a recent regular news briefing in response to inquiries about reports that some German companies, including Volkswagen and BASF, are considering divesting their business interests in Xinjiang due to concerns over “forced labor” and “detention camps” in the region.
During the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that certain political forces have spread numerous falsehoods about Xinjiang, including the allegation of “forced labor.” Wang stated that these lies are intended to disrupt China’s development and rejuvenation.
Mao Ning highlighted that Xinjiang currently enjoys social stability, economic development, ethnic unity, and religious harmony. She affirmed that the rights and interests of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are effectively protected.
“We hope relevant companies will respect the facts, distinguish right from wrong, and cherish the opportunity to invest and develop in Xinjiang,” Mao said.
