Firefighters Battle Out-of-Control Blaze in Argentina’s Los Alerces National Park

Firefighters in Argentina are battling an out-of-control blaze in Los Alerces National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Patagonia. The fire, which has already scorched approximately 600 hectares, threatens to reach two nearby towns.

“The fire is out of control,” stated Mario Cardenas, head of the park’s fire, communications, and emergency department. “Conditions are unfavorable because we still have a lot of wind and high temperatures. This makes our work very difficult.”

Efforts are being intensified to contain the blaze, but challenging weather conditions hamper progress. The soaring temperatures and persistent winds have fueled the spread of the fire, causing significant concern among local communities and authorities.

Los Alerces National Park is renowned for its ancient alerce trees and rich biodiversity, making the impact of the fire particularly distressing for environmentalists and nature enthusiasts worldwide. The potential loss of unique flora and fauna underscores the urgency of containment efforts.

Local residents are being advised to stay alert and follow instructions from emergency services. International support may be sought if the situation escalates further.
