As China and France approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024—a year designated as the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism—the ties between the two nations continue to deepen through rich cultural exchanges. One of the shining examples of these exchanges is the Saint Marc Choir from Lyon, France.

Founded in 1986, the Saint Marc Choir has been an integral part of Lyon’s cultural landscape for over three decades. Renowned for their angelic voices and captivating performances, the choir has garnered international acclaim, notably through their music in the film “Les Choristes” (“The Chorus”).

The choir has a longstanding relationship with the Chinese mainland, having performed there multiple times. In a testament to this enduring connection, the Saint Marc Choir is scheduled to collaborate with Chinese orchestras in performances slated for July and October.

Nicolas Porte, the director of the Saint Marc Choir, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing cultural dialogue between the two countries. “The stable development of Sino-French relations has greatly facilitated cultural exchanges,” he remarked. “The differences in Chinese and French music have always brought me richer feelings. I hope to bring French music to China for more exchanges in the future.”

These musical collaborations not only showcase the harmonious blend of Eastern and Western artistry but also strengthen the people-to-people connections that form the backbone of Sino-French relations. As the anniversary approaches, such cultural endeavors highlight the shared values and mutual appreciation that have sustained the friendship between China and France for six decades.
