A devastating landslide struck a mountainous village in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Monday, leaving over 10 people dead and at least 47 others missing, according to local authorities.
The disaster occurred in the early hours when heavy rainfall triggered the collapse of a hillside, engulfing homes and blocking roads. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected area to search for survivors and provide aid to those displaced.
In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Emergency Management and the Ministry of Finance have allocated 50 million yuan (approximately $7 million) in disaster relief funds. The funds will support search and rescue operations, relocation and resettlement of affected residents, monitoring of potential secondary disasters, and repairs to damaged infrastructure.
Local officials have urged residents in surrounding areas to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories, as continued rainfall poses additional risks of landslides and flooding.
