Walking along the river in Qunwei Village of Hangzhou, in east China’s Zhejiang Province, visitors are greeted by a unique sight: a belt of photovoltaic (PV) panels seamlessly integrated into the stunning landscape. This innovative approach to green energy is transforming the village and promoting common prosperity among its residents.
Qunwei Village is the first in the region to implement the concept of “whole-county photovoltaic,” a project that utilizes “sleeping” rural roof resources to generate electricity without occupying farmland or requiring financial investment from villagers. The PV panels harness solar energy, providing a sustainable source of electricity while contributing to the local economy.
Thanks to the Whole-County PV Project, the village’s annual electricity generation has reached approximately 540,000 kilowatt-hours. This impressive output translates to an annual income increase exceeding 230,000 yuan (over $32,000), benefiting the entire community.
