The 2023 Tongzhou Global Development Forum, themed “Working Together for Global Development and a Common Future,” convened recently in Beijing. The forum gathered policymakers, representatives of international agencies, and academics from China and abroad to discuss pressing challenges hindering global development and to propose innovative solutions.
Vince Cable, the United Kingdom’s former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing China’s potential to play an even greater role in upholding multilateralism. He highlighted how China could advance mutual learning among civilizations and spearhead reforms in the global governance system.
“China’s initiatives, such as the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, demonstrate a strong commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity,” Cable remarked. “These efforts are vital in addressing common challenges and fostering international cooperation.”
The forum provided a platform for diverse voices to engage in constructive dialogue on how to overcome obstacles to global development. Participants underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and mutual understanding in achieving sustainable growth and stability.
By bringing together experts and leaders from various fields, the Tongzhou Global Development Forum aims to contribute to the formulation of effective strategies that promote equitable development worldwide. The discussions at the forum are expected to influence policy directions and encourage joint efforts in tackling global issues.
