In an extraordinary virtual summit held on November 21, the BRICS nations jointly called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for a “two-state solution” to achieve enduring peace in the region.
The leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa convened to address the escalating humanitarian crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the summit highlighted the collective stance of the Global South in seeking a peaceful resolution.
Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and promoting peace. He stressed that the only viable path to lasting peace is the establishment of an independent Palestine coexisting alongside Israel. “Only a two-state solution could bring lasting peace,” Xi affirmed.
