The 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum concluded successfully on October 31, bringing together over 1,800 participants from 99 official delegations. Attendees included defense ministers from 19 countries, military chiefs, representatives of international organizations, experts, scholars, and observers from around the globe.
Amidst growing global tensions and humanitarian crises—such as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the crisis in Ukraine—the forum emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and cooperation to address international security challenges. Discussions highlighted that peace is essential for human development and that unilateral approaches exacerbate existing threats.
Conflicts have disrupted supply chains, fueled food insecurity, and hindered progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The continuing humanitarian crises have significantly impacted the global economy and human welfare. For instance, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that escalating conflicts could adversely affect regional economies and pose risks to the global economy, including potential spikes in oil prices.
Speakers at the forum stressed that security is a shared responsibility transcending national boundaries. Delegates urged genuine cooperation to tackle global security challenges and called for building trust while minimizing differences. Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission of China, reiterated China’s commitment to work with all parties to deepen mutual trust on security issues, enhance security governance, and promote security cooperation.
The Beijing Xiangshan Forum served as a platform to inject new vitality into the pursuit of global peace. By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, it aimed to address pressing security concerns that affect nations worldwide and contribute to building a more secure and prosperous future for all.
