This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a visionary project aiming to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and beyond along the ancient Silk Road routes. The BRI has demonstrated vitality and resilience in promoting global development through openness, inclusiveness, mutual benefits, and sustainability.
At Tsinghua University in Beijing, overseas students are voicing their optimistic expectations for the BRI’s future. Chong Wen-fei from Indonesia expressed hope that China and Indonesia will maintain strong relations, envisioning more high-speed railways like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway built by China. “I hope our countries can continue to collaborate on infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity,” he said.
Singaporean student Shinna believes the BRI will strengthen economic interdependence among Asian nations. “The BRI really increases the efficiency of transportation,” she remarked. “It makes trade faster and more cost-effective, which benefits economies across the region.”
Their sentiments reflect a growing enthusiasm among international students for the opportunities and developments the BRI brings to their home countries and the broader region. As the initiative enters its second decade, the aspirations of these young people highlight the potential for continued collaboration and shared prosperity across Asia and beyond.
