Raptors play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy environment and ecological balance by controlling other animal populations. The Beijing Raptor Rescue Center, co-established by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and Beijing Normal University and authorized by the Beijing authorities, is dedicated to rehabilitating these majestic birds of prey.
Since its establishment in 2001, the center has rescued 5,825 raptors as of June 2023. To help injured raptors combat heat waves, the center employs various measures. Sub-adult common kestrels and eagle owls utilize outdoor sprinkler systems and water basins to cool down and clean their feathers. Rehabilitation specialists also provide ample food, including bee pupae in pine cones, to enhance the raptors’ strength and immunity. These efforts ensure the raptors better adapt to the intense heat.
These initiatives not only aid the raptors in surviving harsh conditions but also contribute to preserving the ecological balance. By supporting these vital predators, the Beijing Raptor Rescue Center plays a crucial role in conserving biodiversity and promoting environmental stability.
