Kenyan Scholar Highlights China’s Unique Democratic Model
In a recent interview with CGTN Global Stringer, Kenneth Okech, a policy and governance researcher at Kenya Methodist University, shared his insights on China's democratic system. Okech described China's system as \”self-sustaining\” and highlighted its uniqueness compared to Western models of democracy.
\”The Chinese democratic system is a bit unique in the sense that what they're practicing is different from what is practiced in the West,\” Okech stated. He emphasized that China's model has been appealing to many leaders from Africa and other developing nations who are looking for alternative paths to development and governance.
Okech noted that the effectiveness of China's system lies in its ability to adapt to its own socio-political context, rather than adopting foreign models that may not align with its cultural and historical background. \”It's about finding a system that works for your people and your circumstances,\” he added.
The scholar's remarks reflect a growing interest among African countries in understanding and learning from China's development experience. As China continues to expand its global influence, its unique approach to governance and democracy is drawing attention from nations seeking sustainable growth and stability.
