Spring Festival Demand Sparks Surge in Forest Product Trade
Forest foods from 18 provinces and regions across the Chinese mainland saw unprecedented trading activity during the 2026 Spring Festival, according to data from the Hunan Changde International Agricultural Products Trading Center. Daily trading volumes quadrupled to 60 tonnes during the holiday period, driven by robust demand for regional specialties like Sichuan peppercorns, Shanxi spice, and Yunnan blueberries.
"This year’s festival season has been transformative for rural economies," said Sun Kuili, deputy general manager of the center. "We secured 100,000 tonnes of supply agreements with key production zones in Hunan, Hubei, and Yunnan ahead of the holiday rush—ensuring both stability and profitability for farmers."
Economic Ripple Effects
The surge highlights the growing role of forest-based agriculture in China’s rural revitalization strategy. Analysts note that increased market access for niche products is creating sustainable income streams for communities in ecologically rich areas. With government-backed logistics upgrades and e-commerce integration, these goods now reach consumers nationwide within 48 hours of harvest.
