In 2008, at the tender age of 14, Suhrobjon embarked on a journey that would forever change his life. Leaving his home in Russia, he enrolled in a bilingual school in China—a country that was entirely new to him. Everything was different: the food, the language, and even the way of eating with chopsticks.
During his stay, he lived with a Chinese host family who embraced him as one of their own. Celebrating the Chinese New Year with them was an unforgettable experience. “It was unique and a precious memory,” Suhrobjon recalls, reflecting on the vibrant festivities and the warmth of his hosts.
Throughout his college years, his fascination with China only grew. He traveled extensively, visiting provinces like Henan and Shaanxi, immersing himself in the rich history and diverse cultures each region offered. These journeys deepened his appreciation for the country’s heritage and its people.
After graduating from university in China, Suhrobjon returned to Russia, carrying with him the valuable experiences and friendships he had gained. Today, he works alongside colleagues from China to build a new metro system in Moscow. His cross-cultural experiences have been instrumental in fostering collaboration and understanding in his professional life.
“The friendships I made and the lessons I learned in China continue to influence my work every day,” says Suhrobjon. His story is a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the enduring bonds that can form across borders.
