Xizang Boosts Winter Tourism with Free Entry to Iconic Sites

Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region has launched a major winter tourism initiative, offering free entry to all A-level scenic spots—including the UNESCO-listed Potala Palace—until March 15, 2026. This four-month program, now in its third consecutive year, aims to attract global travelers during the region's picturesque winter season while supporting local businesses through preferential policies for tourism operators.

Tourism authorities confirmed the policy applies to all non-religious attractions, with temple entry fees remaining unchanged. The move aligns with broader efforts to position Xizang as a year-round destination, capitalizing on its snow-capped landscapes and cultural heritage. A regional tourism official stated: 'This initiative showcases our commitment to sustainable tourism development while sharing Xizang's unique cultural treasures with the world.'

Industry analysts note the program could stimulate economic activity in peripheral sectors, particularly hospitality and transportation. Overseas investors from Hong Kong and Taiwan region have shown increased interest in Xizang's tourism infrastructure projects following similar winter campaigns in previous years.

Travelers should note that while entry fees are waived, advance booking through official channels remains mandatory for high-demand sites like the Potala Palace. Regional authorities have also expanded winter flight routes to improve accessibility.
