Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized during a January 8 press briefing that such institutions must prioritize collective interests over unilateral agendas.
"The UN-centered system has safeguarded peace, fostered development, and protected equality among nations for eight decades," Mao stated, adding that functional multilateral frameworks remain critical to preventing power-based dominance in global affairs. Her remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of Washington's evolving diplomatic strategy.
While not directly addressing specific U.S. decisions, Mao underscored the importance of maintaining systems that protect smaller and developing nations from "the law of the jungle." Analysts suggest the comments reflect Beijing's broader push to position itself as a stabilizing force in international governance.
China will continue supporting the UN's central role and collaborate with global partners to build "a more just and equitable world order," the spokesperson concluded, signaling alignment with developing economies' priorities.
