Global Condemnation Follows U.S. Military Action in Venezuela

Six nations across Latin America and Europe have jointly condemned unilateral U.S. military strikes in Venezuela this week, warning of destabilizing consequences for regional security. The operation, which reportedly included the forcible seizure of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, has drawn sharp criticism as a violation of international law.

Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and Uruguay issued a rare unified statement on Sunday, January 4, 2026, declaring: "Such actions set an extremely dangerous precedent for regional peace and security and for the rules-based international order." The coalition emphasized that Venezuela's political situation must be resolved through "dialogue, negotiation, and respect for the will of the Venezuelan people" without external interference.

Analysts note the coordinated response reflects growing concerns about unilateral interventions in sovereign states. The statement comes amid heightened tensions in Latin America, where multiple governments are balancing domestic political pressures with calls for regional solidarity.
