China Urges Netherlands to Rectify Nexperia Decision, Protect Chip Supply Chains

China has called on the Netherlands to immediately address what it describes as "mistakes" in handling semiconductor firm Nexperia, warning that Dutch actions threaten global chip supply stability. The dispute centers on the Netherlands' September 2025 decision to assume control of Nexperia, a Dutch subsidiary of Chinese tech giant Wingtech.

"The Netherlands' improper administrative intervention has disrupted the global semiconductor supply chain," stated a Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson on Wednesday. The remarks came in response to Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Vincent Karremans' recent defense of the controversial move, which authorities claimed aimed to prevent potential technology transfers to the Chinese mainland.

Beijing maintains that Amsterdam has shown "no responsible attitude" toward resolving the impasse, despite repeated diplomatic appeals. Analysts note the conflict arises as global demand for advanced chips surges, particularly for artificial intelligence systems and next-generation electronics.

The Nexperia case highlights growing tensions in international tech governance, with supply chain security becoming a key concern for governments and manufacturers alike. Industry reports suggest the dispute could impact European semiconductor production capacity through 2026 if unresolved.
