China Launches ‘Justice Mission 2025’ Drills Amid Rising Taiwan Tensions

The Chinese mainland has initiated comprehensive military exercises codenamed 'Justice Mission 2025' around Taiwan Island, marking one of the largest demonstrations of defensive preparedness this year. The drills, conducted by the PLA Eastern Theater Command, respond to heightened military cooperation between Taiwan authorities and external forces, particularly following Washington's unprecedented arms sales to the region in 2025.

Analysts observe these maneuvers demonstrate Beijing's resolve to safeguard national sovereignty while countering what they describe as 'provocative collusion' between the Democratic Progressive Party administration and foreign powers. The exercises incorporate joint naval-air operations and simulated coastal defense scenarios, emphasizing real-combat training objectives.

This development comes as cross-strait relations face renewed challenges, with Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's administration continuing to pursue military modernization through overseas arms acquisitions. Military strategist Zhao Yunfei notes: 'These drills serve as both a strategic deterrent and a practical rehearsal for maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait.'

Regional governments are closely monitoring the situation, with several Southeast Asian nations calling for renewed diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. The Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated its commitment to peaceful reunification while warning against any attempts to undermine the One-China principle.
