The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has mobilized a 4 billion HKD (US$514 million) support fund to assist residents affected by the devastating Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po. The announcement comes three days after the blaze that claimed 161 lives, with victim identification through DNA analysis still ongoing.
Housing Relief Efforts
As of December 21, 2025, temporary accommodations have been secured for 4,653 displaced residents through coordinated efforts across multiple agencies. The Housing Bureau reports 3,513 individuals now reside in transitional housing units, while others stay in government-coordinated hotel rooms and youth hostels.
Long-Term Recovery Plan
The fund will prioritize home reconstruction and sustained community support. 'Our focus remains on restoring normalcy while providing essential services to affected families,' stated a HKSAR government spokesperson. Authorities confirm regular updates will be provided as recovery operations progress.
