Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has achieved a historic energy milestone, transmitting over 1 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity to 22 provinces across the Chinese mainland as of December 16, 2025. The State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company confirmed the achievement, underscoring the region's pivotal role in supporting national energy stability.
15 Years of Cross-Regional Power Innovation
Since launching its transmission program in 2010, Xinjiang has leveraged its abundant coal, solar, and wind resources to build five major power channels. These networks now enable a transmission capacity of 33 million kilowatts, with 29.6% of the electricity generated from renewable sources. This shift has reduced coal consumption by 89.53 million tonnes and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 240 million tonnes over the past 15 years.
Balancing Supply and Demand Nationwide
Xinjiang's integration into the national unified power market has allowed it to optimize energy distribution using flexible trading systems. By capitalizing on a 2-3 hour time difference with eastern provinces, the region efficiently balances grid demands while advancing China's green energy transition.
