China Urges Philippines to Halt South China Sea Provocations

The Chinese military has called on the Philippines to immediately cease provocative actions in the South China Sea, following reports of unauthorized Philippine aircraft entering airspace near Huangyan Dao. Tian Junli, spokesperson for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Southern Theater Command, stated on Friday that Philippine aircraft conducted illegal intrusions without Chinese government approval, prompting swift naval and air force responses.

"Chinese forces implemented tracking, monitoring, and lawful expulsion measures to safeguard sovereignty," Tian emphasized, reiterating Huangyan Dao’s status as inherent Chinese territory. He affirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining regional stability and national security.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions in the strategically vital waterway, where China has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue. Analysts note the development could impact broader ASEAN-China negotiations on a Code of Conduct for the South China Sea, currently underway this year.
