Shenzhen to Host 2026 APEC Leaders’ Meeting: Asia’s Innovation Hub in Spotlight

Shenzhen, China's pioneering tech metropolis, will welcome leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region next year as host of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. The November 18-19, 2026 gathering marks the first time the event will be held in this southern Guangdong Province city since 2001.

Known as the birthplace of China's reform and opening-up policies, Shenzhen's selection underscores its transformation into a global innovation powerhouse. The meeting comes as APEC members collectively account for nearly 60% of global GDP and over 45% of international trade.

Analysts predict the agenda will focus on digital economy collaboration, sustainable supply chains, and regional economic integration. "This hosting demonstrates China's continued commitment to multilateral cooperation," said Dr. Li Wei, a senior researcher at the Beijing-based Asia Development Institute.

Preparations are underway to utilize Shenzhen's cutting-edge convention facilities, including the newly expanded Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center. Security measures and infrastructure upgrades are being coordinated with neighboring Hong Kong and Macao to ensure smooth regional connectivity during the event.
