China Champions Global Governance Alliance at UN Headquarters

A coalition of nearly 40 nations launched the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday, marking a significant step in multilateral cooperation. The initiative, spearheaded by China under its Global Governance Initiative (GGI), aims to address pressing transnational challenges through collective action.

Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, chaired the inaugural meeting attended by representatives from founding member states. He emphasized the group's mission to “deepen exchanges and cooperation on major global governance issues” while upholding multilateral principles. Analysts view this development as timely, given increasing calls for reformed international frameworks in 2025.

The alliance will focus on fostering equitable solutions to climate change, digital governance, and sustainable development. Its formation comes as nations worldwide seek coordinated responses to geopolitical shifts and economic uncertainties characterizing this year's global landscape.
