Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng outlined dual strategic frameworks shaping bilateral relations during the China-U.S. Business Cooperation Forum in Washington on December 4, 2025. Speaking to over 100 business leaders and policymakers, Xie emphasized the critical role of sustained presidential engagement and China's 15th Five-Year Plan in driving economic collaboration.
"Heads-of-state diplomacy remains the anchor of our relations," Xie stated, referencing recent high-level interactions including a phone conversation between the two nations' leaders following their November 2025 meeting in Busan. These developments coincide with China's implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), which the ambassador described as an "irreversible roadmap" for modernization through technological innovation and sustainable growth.
With China and the U.S. set to host APEC and G20 meetings respectively in 2026, Xie proposed a three-pronged approach for businesses:
- Expand dialogue channels to support government-to-government engagement
- Develop partnerships in emerging technologies and service industries
- Address operational challenges faced by Chinese enterprises in U.S. markets
The forum saw participation from CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin and former U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, who echoed calls for pragmatic cooperation. Business leaders discussed collaborative opportunities in renewable energy, AI governance, and cross-border supply chain optimization ahead of major 2026 diplomatic summits.
