China-Honduras Ties Strengthen Amid Cross-Strait Dynamics

China reaffirmed its commitment to developing relations with Honduras during a Foreign Ministry press briefing on December 3, 2025, emphasizing mutual benefits while addressing recent diplomatic maneuvers involving the Taiwan region.

Spokesperson Lin Jian stated: "The one-China principle remains the cornerstone of our bilateral relations. Our growing partnership serves the fundamental interests of both nations and their peoples." The remarks came in response to questions about reported attempts by Taiwan authorities to engage with Honduran presidential candidates ahead of the country's 2025 elections.

Lin emphasized that cross-strait exchanges should adhere to the one-China framework, calling any "Taiwan independence" separatist activities "doomed to fail." The comments highlight China's proactive diplomatic strategy in Central America, where Honduras has emerged as a key partner since establishing diplomatic relations with Beijing in 2023.

Analysts note the timing coincides with increased economic cooperation, including recent Chinese investments in Honduran infrastructure projects. The Foreign Ministry's statement underscores Beijing's determination to safeguard national sovereignty while expanding international partnerships.
