China Condemns Japan’s PM Over San Francisco Treaty Remarks

China's Foreign Ministry issued a sharp rebuke on November 27, 2025, targeting Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for her recent emphasis on what Beijing calls the 'illegal and invalid' San Francisco Peace Treaty. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun accused Takaichi of deliberately ignoring foundational postwar agreements, including the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation, which underpin Japan's legal obligations.

Guo stressed that Takaichi's selective historical narrative undermines the political foundation of China-Japan relations, established through four bilateral documents since 1972. He warned that her remarks risk destabilizing regional stability by reviving the 'theory of undetermined Taiwan status,' a notion Beijing vehemently rejects under its one-China principle.

The spokesperson urged Japan to 'reflect and rectify' its position, calling on Tokyo to honor commitments made in the 1972 Sino-Japanese Joint Statement and uphold the postwar international order. China also appealed to the global community to remain vigilant against historical revisionism that challenges UN authority and international law.
