Baduanjin Gains Spotlight at 2025 National Games

Ancient Practice Meets Modern Sports Arena

As the 2025 National Games unfold this November, a 5,000-year-old cultural treasure has emerged as an unexpected star. Baduanjin, the traditional Chinese exercise system emphasizing mind-body coordination, makes its formal competitive debut this week through demonstration events.

Characterized by eight flowing movements performed in 15-minute sessions, this low-impact practice has seen renewed interest among urban professionals and youth. Medical researchers at Beijing Sports University recently documented improved stress management and postural benefits in a 12-month clinical trial completed in October 2025.

"This inclusion bridges our cultural heritage with contemporary wellness needs," noted Games organizer Li Wei during Tuesday's opening ceremony. Visitors to Tianjin's Olympic Center can attend free workshops through November 20, while broadcasters are airing instructional segments between competitions.
