China Honors Sun Yat-sen’s Legacy on 159th Birth Anniversary

China commemorated the 159th birth anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, revered as a national hero and pioneer of modern China, during a solemn ceremony at Beijing's Zhongshan Park on November 12, 2025. Senior officials from across China's political spectrum gathered to honor the revolutionary leader through floral tributes and ceremonial bows before his statue.

The event, organized by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), brought together representatives from the Communist Party of China Central Committee's United Front Work Department, the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, and Beijing municipal authorities. Descendants of Sun Yat-sen joined officials from non-Communist political parties and civic organizations in the tribute.

Born in 1866 in Guangdong Province, Sun Yat-sen is celebrated for his pivotal role in ending China's imperial system through the 1911 Revolution. His efforts dismantled the Qing Dynasty and marked the conclusion of over two millennia of feudal governance, laying foundations for modern Chinese statehood.

The annual commemoration underscores Sun's enduring influence on cross-strait relations and national reunification efforts. As China continues to emphasize historical continuity in its development narrative, such observances reinforce shared cultural heritage while addressing contemporary political priorities.
