On April 12, a group of around 20 American high school students from Muscatine, Iowa, who are studying Chinese, visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Washington, D.C. The visit marked a significant moment in fostering cultural understanding between the youth of both nations.

Minister Jing Quan warmly welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of people-to-people friendship as the foundation of the relationship between the United States and China. He expressed hope that the students would continue to excel in their Chinese language studies and become future ambassadors of goodwill between the two countries.

The event was facilitated by Sarah Landy, a long-standing friend of China from Iowa, who has been instrumental in promoting cultural exchanges. The students engaged in lively discussions with young diplomats from the embassy, delving into various aspects of Chinese culture and fostering mutual understanding.

“It was an eye-opening experience,” said one of the students. “Meeting with the diplomats and learning more about Chinese culture firsthand has inspired me to continue my language studies and perhaps pursue a career in international relations.”

The visit highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the people of the United States and China through educational and cultural exchanges. Such initiatives are crucial in promoting mutual respect and cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world.
