Shanghai’s CIIE Showcases Global Consumer Trends, Boosts Open Markets

The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened its doors in Shanghai on November 5, drawing global attention to cutting-edge consumer trends and cross-border collaboration. As one of the world’s largest trade fairs, the event highlights China’s commitment to high-level opening-up and shared economic growth.

Journalist Wang Tao of CGTN led a tour through the consumer goods exhibition area, revealing innovations from smart home devices to eco-friendly lifestyle products. Over 3,400 exhibitors from 145 countries and regions – including first-time participants from Central Asia and the Pacific Islands – are showcasing advancements in healthcare, tech, and sustainable design.

Business analysts note the expo’s role in bridging emerging markets with international brands, particularly through cross-border e-commerce platforms. A featured 'Silk Road Pavilion' spotlights trade opportunities under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, while interactive displays allow visitors to test AI-powered retail solutions.

With food culture taking center stage, pavilions from Southeast Asia and Europe are offering culinary experiences alongside business matchmaking sessions. The event coincides with Shanghai’s efforts to position itself as a global consumption hub, with new policies easing market access for overseas brands.

As the expo continues through November 10, stakeholders await announcements on tariff reductions and intellectual property protections – key factors for foreign enterprises eyeing the Chinese mainland’s vast consumer market.
