In the past decade, China’s efforts to enhance early childhood education have yielded significant results. Between 2011 and 2021, the number of Chinese university graduates specializing in preschool education increased six-fold. This surge in qualified educators has been pivotal in improving the quality of education for young children.
Simultaneously, the number of kindergartens across the country rose by more than 70 percent. Impressively, approximately 80 percent of the new kindergartens are located in central and western China, regions that traditionally had less access to quality education resources. Nearly 90 percent of kindergarten students now benefit from “public-benefit” preschool education, making early learning more accessible and affordable.
Liang Shuang, a mother of two from Henan Province, witnessed these changes firsthand. This year, her eldest daughter enrolled in a “public-benefit” kindergarten within their community. “After private kindergartens adjusted their fees according to government guidelines, ordinary families like ours can afford better education for our children,” Liang shared.
The government’s guidelines have effectively regulated fees in private kindergartens, ensuring that quality preschool education is within reach for families across different socioeconomic backgrounds. By standardizing costs and investing in educator training, China is laying a strong foundation for the future of its youth.
As the nation continues to prioritize education, these developments promise lasting benefits not only for individual families but also for the overall advancement of society.
