Michael Schumann, Chairman of the Board of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade, emphasized in a recent interview that China’s strategic planning has enabled it to balance innovation, digitalization, and green transition while maintaining social stability—a feat he calls a "resilient transformation."

Schumann noted that China’s focus on "new quality productive forces"—prioritizing advanced technologies, green energy, and human capital over low-cost labor—has reshaped its economic model. "This shift isn’t just about China’s modernization; it’s redefining global growth engines toward sustainability and shared prosperity," he said. During visits to Chinese manufacturing hubs, Schumann observed firsthand the automation and efficiency driving sectors like electric vehicles, which he described as a "fitness room" for global competitiveness.
Institutional Opening-Up Strengthens Global Ties
Despite rising protectionism worldwide, Schumann praised China’s commitment to institutional opening-up, citing the China-Europe Railway Express as a symbol of trust-building and shared growth. "The railway has revitalized cities like Duisburg, creating jobs and fostering cross-border collaboration," he explained. This connectivity, he argued, underscores China’s role as a stabilizing force in global supply chains.

As China prepares its 15th Five-Year Plan, Schumann anticipates intensified focus on green growth, digital transformation, and international cooperation in climate technology and governance.
