The 138th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) has cemented its status as a cornerstone of global trade, breaking multiple records amid robust international participation. Held from October 15 to November 4 in Guangzhou, the event drew over 32,000 enterprises and 74,600 booths — both historic highs — showcasing China’s expanding role in global supply chains.
Global Buyers Flock to Guangzhou
Pre-registered overseas buyers surpassed 240,000, spanning 218 countries and regions, with notable surges from the EU, U.S., and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partners. The fair’s 1.55 million square meters of exhibition space featured 55 specialized sections, including debuts from 3,600 first-time exhibitors and 2,640 brand-name enterprises.
Strong Start for Trade Deals
Early transaction data revealed promising momentum. Shenzhen’s delegation reported $115 million in deals on opening day — quadruple the previous autumn session’s first-day tally. Tianjin secured $27 million in intended transactions, reflecting heightened confidence in cross-border partnerships.
Innovation and Sustainability Take Center Stage
Exhibitors emphasized green technologies and smart manufacturing, aligning with global demand for sustainable solutions. Analysts note the fair’s evolution from a trade hub to a platform for knowledge exchange, particularly in renewable energy and digital infrastructure.
