China has unveiled new measures to enhance duty-free shopping privileges for travelers departing from Hainan, effective immediately. The policy adjustments announced Friday aim to strengthen the island's position as a global shopping hub while stimulating post-pandemic economic recovery.

Expanded product categories eligible for tax exemptions
Streamlined customs clearance procedures
Extended eligibility for offshore duty-free purchases
"These optimizations reflect our commitment to developing Hainan into an international tourism and consumption center," stated a spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce. Analysts predict the move could increase retail sales in Hainan's free trade ports by 15-20% annually through 2025.
The policy shift comes as China intensifies efforts to attract international visitors and retain domestic spending. Hainan received over 90 million tourists in 2023, with duty-free sales exceeding $9 billion USD.
