A delegation of consular officials and business leaders from Hong Kong embarked on a six-day tour of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday, signaling growing interest in cross-regional economic collaboration. The visit aims to identify synergies between Hong Kong's financial expertise and Xinjiang's resource-rich industries.
Cui Jianchun, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, emphasized at the launch ceremony that combining Xinjiang's geographic advantages and industrial capacity with Hong Kong's innovation capabilities could create “win-win partnerships.” The delegation plans to visit key economic hubs including Urumqi and Kashi, with stops at Belt and Road cooperation zones and agricultural processing facilities.
David Whitwam of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong told media he’s particularly interested in Xinjiang’s dairy technology advancements. “There’s potential for knowledge exchange in livestock breeding and sustainable food production,” he noted, reflecting broader international business curiosity about the region’s development.
The tour comes as Xinjiang strengthens its role in China’s domestic supply chains and cross-border trade networks. Analysts suggest such exchanges could position Hong Kong as a bridge for foreign investors eyeing opportunities in western China.
