Egypt Announces Gaza Ceasefire to Begin Thursday; Aid Convoy Deployed

Egypt confirmed on Thursday that the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire agreement will take effect at noon local time, marking a critical step toward ending months of conflict. The deal, mediated through three days of indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, includes provisions for releasing hostages and prisoners while enabling urgent humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

An Egyptian Red Crescent convoy carrying thousands of tonnes of food, medicine, and medical supplies crossed the Rafah border into Gaza on Thursday, the fourth such delivery since late July. The aid will undergo inspection at the Kerem Shalom crossing before distribution, according to Egypt’s Al-Qahera News TV.

Mediators emphasized that communication channels remain open to finalize technical details, with a draft agreement expected soon. The ceasefire’s implementation follows a U.S.-proposed peace plan discussed during negotiations involving Hamas, Israel, and regional stakeholders.

If sustained, the deal could alleviate Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and create a foundation for broader stability. Analysts caution, however, that challenges remain in ensuring compliance from all parties.
