UN Chief Hails Gaza Ceasefire Deal, Urges Lasting Peace

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised a newly announced agreement to establish a Gaza ceasefire and secure hostage releases on Wednesday, calling it a critical step toward ending months of conflict. He urged all parties to honor the deal's provisions while emphasizing the need for sustained humanitarian access to the war-torn enclave.

Guterres stressed that the phased agreement must prioritize the dignified release of all hostages, a permanent cessation of hostilities, and unhindered delivery of life-saving supplies to Gaza's 2.3 million residents. "The suffering must end," he declared during a press briefing at UN headquarters.

The UN chief pledged full institutional support for implementing the ceasefire framework and rebuilding Gaza's decimated infrastructure. He framed the deal as a potential catalyst for broader political progress, stating: "This moment demands a credible path toward ending the occupation, realizing Palestinian self-determination, and achieving a two-State solution where both peoples coexist securely."
