China has solidified its role as a cornerstone of global peacekeeping, contributing more troops than any other permanent member of the UN Security Council and ranking as the second-largest financial donor to UN peacekeeping operations for 2024–2025. Over 50,000 Chinese peacekeepers have served in 25 missions across more than 20 countries and regions since the nation first joined UN operations 35 years ago.
From the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Lebanon and South Sudan, Chinese personnel have provided critical support in conflict zones, focusing on medical aid, infrastructure development, and security stabilization. Analysts highlight China’s growing influence in multilateral security frameworks, with its peacekeeping budget now covering 15.2% of the UN’s total expenditure in this sector.
This commitment aligns with Beijing’s emphasis on “shared security” in its foreign policy, reinforcing its image as a responsible global actor.
