Chinese Premier Li Qiang outlined China’s vision for international cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) during a high-level UN meeting in New York, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and equitable partnerships to address global challenges.
Four Pillars for Shared Progress
Li highlighted four priorities: fostering a stable international environment, building balanced development partnerships, cultivating innovation-driven growth, and promoting green transitions. He warned against “zero-sum mentalities” and urged nations to resist decoupling efforts, stressing that “peace and openness underpin prosperity.”
China’s Commitments
China pledged to launch 2,000 livelihood projects in developing countries, establish a $23 billion development fund, and advance AI and green energy collaborations. Li announced new initiatives, including a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and a Clean Stove Project for developing nations, while reaffirming support for WTO programs aiding least-developed countries.
Green Transition Leadership
Noting China’s role in reducing global renewable energy costs by up to 80%, Li promised expanded maritime development projects for small island states and a Sustainable Development Satellites Alliance to provide climate data. Over 100 countries have already partnered with China on green energy initiatives.
The speech concluded with a call to accelerate the UN 2030 Agenda, positioning the GDI as a catalyst for “a more prosperous world through cooperation.”
