Gaza Conflict: 73% of Casualties Are Women and Children, Says Minister

Palestinian Minister for Women's Affairs Mona El-Khalili has revealed a harrowing statistic: 73% of casualties in Gaza's ongoing conflict are women and children. Speaking about the humanitarian crisis, El-Khalili emphasized that over 20,000 women have lost their lives, with survivors facing extreme hardships including loss of privacy and basic survival challenges.

"Women and girls are enduring unimaginable conditions," El-Khalili stated, highlighting disrupted access to healthcare, sanitation, and safe spaces. The conflict has forced many families into overcrowded shelters, where infectious diseases spread rapidly and malnutrition rates soar.

Analysts note the disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups reflects Gaza's densely populated urban areas and limited evacuation options. International aid organizations report severe shortages of medical supplies and food, compounding the crisis for 1.7 million displaced residents.

While geopolitical discussions continue at the UN Security Council, El-Khalili's remarks underscore urgent calls for humanitarian pauses and targeted aid delivery. The situation remains critical as regional stability concerns grow among neighboring countries and global observers.
