CMG’s ‘Victory’ Documentary Chronicles China’s WWII Resistance

China Media Group (CMG) will premiere its 10-episode documentary series Victory on August 26, offering a comprehensive retelling of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The series airs as part of commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the global anti-fascist struggle.

Broadcast nightly on CCTV-1 at 8:00 p.m. (with repeats on CCTV-10 at 9:20 p.m. the following day), the documentary spans 14 pivotal years of resistance through archival footage, expert commentary, and survivor accounts. The production aims to contextualize China's wartime sacrifices within the broader Allied effort while highlighting historical lessons for modern audiences.

Academics note the timing aligns with growing international interest in Asia's wartime history. For diaspora communities, the series provides accessible insights into a defining chapter of Chinese heritage. The documentary's release also coincides with increased cultural tourism to historical sites across the Chinese mainland.
