Chengdu World Games Shatters 27 Records, Showcases Athletic Excellence

The 2025 Chengdu World Games has cemented its place in sports history with 18 world records and nine Games records shattered since its opening last week. Athletes from the Chinese mainland claimed two world records and one Games record, while global competitors dominated lifesaving events, underscoring the Games' international appeal.

Climbing to New Heights

Chinese climbers electrified crowds by breaking the women's team relay world record in 13.28 seconds, part of their five-gold medal haul in sport climbing. The men's team relay world record also fell during the competition, demonstrating the event's high-caliber performances.

Aquatic Achievements

Chengdu Sport University's Sancha Lake Campus Natatorium became the Games' most prolific record-breaking venue. Sixteen world records and nine Games records fell across finswimming, freediving, and lifesaving disciplines. Chinese athletes particularly shone in finswimming, securing both world and Games records in the women's 4x50m surface relay.

Global Participation

While European athletes swept all seven new world records in lifesaving, the Games fostered international camaraderie. The closing ceremony at the International Horticultural Exhibition Park's Friendship Pavilion will conclude the 10-day celebration of athleticism, held in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
